Derailleur hanger extension for SRAM
I would like to run a 32 rear cog on y SRAM Red. I currently have a short cage and with the B screw all the way in can run a 30t cog. Will a derailleur extender like the road link work to accomplish this? Thanks.

Comes down to chain wrap capacity, using the road link wont fix that. Better off sourcing a long charge red rear derailleur.

Take a look at Garbaruk to see if they have what you need. I’ve used the long cage that they offer and it worked good but I’m not sure if it’s compatible with your derailleur. This was with a Force AXS Derailleur to run a 10-50 cassette for a climbing event.

To the OP, one trick that actually worked for me is to replace the stock b screw with a longer one. This effectively does the same thing as a hanger extender but without adding length/flex in tbe hanger. I forgot the exact thread but if you go to your local home center you can pretty easily match it by comparing it to other bolts/screws/nuts. Or just bring you RD in start seeing which screw/bolt will thread in. |

My SRAM XX derailleur shifts perfectly fine when I added a Road Link. It now shifts to a 42 tooth low gear.
It is true that the Road Link will not make your derailleur capacity larger, so be aware that shifting to the big ring when in the lowest rear may damage your derailleur.

It is very common and typical to add a longer "B screw" to Sram, as opposed to making the great leap to an extension.
Definitely try that first. |

FWIW, all SRAM AXS 2x RDs have 70mm cage lengths. The 36t capacity model sits a little further back and down to add clearance. They can both wrap about 42t.
I use the 33t model with a 10-36 cassette and only had to keep turning the B screw in further, but I also made longer screws with an M4 button head screw with the head ground down to match the diameter of the original. Adding a road link to either model permits the use of a 44 sprocket, but you can't shift into the big/big due to inadequate range. I fixed that with 93mm cages from cycles Chinook. |
