I only run King on vanity, mostly road bikes.
For offroad I prefer Cane Creek.

Always used Kings on my road bike and there have been many over the years. Mtn bikes for no particular reason have all had cane creek for no particular reason and the best thing I can say for either is I never think about either of them. Install and forget.

I have both, Cane Creek on my C40 HP and Chris King on my Titus Ti.
They both perform well but the Cane Creek IMO works just a little better, plus I think the Cane Creek has a more classic look to it on my C40 it looks great!

Went with Cane Creek this time, will compare with the 13 year old Chris King on my C40. Which I've never thought about!!!

Regarding the old Chris King design on that top cap, o-ring thingy. The fact that Chris King updated that design shows that they knew it was substandard. Why bother doing so if all the internet denizens are lauding praise upon praise on your overpriced headset? And remember, Chris King chose not to update that design for their 1" headsets, so old vintage bike lovers should go with another headset. This is a serious issue and apparently very widespread. Chris King should have had this design recalled years ago. The fork steerer scoring / indentation mark happens quite frequently with Chris King headsets. See this forum (link below). Multiple users on this thread have documented and photographed pics of this issue. This is an issue regardless if your fork steerer is carbon, aluminum, or steel. It simply does not matter. The Chris King design will do this every time, and since the steerer is hidden within the headtube nobody will know otherwise and the Chris King users will continue to pour praise on praise on the Chris King headset. http://singletrackworld.com/forum/to...g-fact-or-myth |

If the headset is threaded, shimano headsets lasts forever aswell. Sadly are so darn expensive.
There is another company, minimax or something like that, they have a 1 inch threadless that uses 1 1/8 45x45 cartridge bearings, comes in several colors and the nice about them is that you can use the top cap in a threadless integrated headset if necessary. They come in 1 inch and 1 1/8. Nice finish and not super expensive and at that price if they last 10 years you get the money back big time. |

You could always go with a King Creek....you know, business up top, party on the bottom.

This is like debating which supermodel is sexier. Of course, neither sucks, but Tange Techno-Glide headsets are way hotter.

There is a clear choice
Campagnolo Record 1" threaded or threadless. Looks good lasts a long time. Less money than CK. Made in Italy.

Opinions Requested - Cane Creek or Chris King Headset
Campagnolo headsets in the last version aren't very good..the grease goes dry and they pit very easily...go with the CK or the Cane Creek...

Can I vote for #3? (if you can still find one!) American Classic Tri-Lock.
Failing that: Acros (if they make a 1") Otherwise, resale on the King is going to be better. M |
