Did you pay more for your groupset, your frameset, or your wheelset?

just thought this might be an interesting poll to look at.

pick your favorite bike.

which did you pay more for: the wheelset, frameset, or groupset?

assume frameset = frame/fork/headset

groupset = running and shift gear, including FD+RD+Crank+shifters+Cassette+brakeset+chain+BB

wheelset = obvious.

the prices of these things relatively speaking to each other has changed a lot over the years, and is dependent on what you ride, so - go vote and discuss here!

Frameset by at least 2x over either. Group and wheels were roughly the same, esp when you add tires to the wheels

They're all roughly even on all of my bikes, except for my brand new custom frame.

The other framesets I've owned run about $500-800 - preowned almost exclusively. Usually spend $6-700 on new handbuilt wheels. That gets you Ultegra/Force/Chorus easily.

Even for me also, unless you include the powermeter in with groupset.....

very interesting.

just looking at some options for new kit.

boras look to run at least 1600 or so

record group about the same....

one can easily buy a used frame well under either of those.

Considering I don't ride expensive wheels (me too heavy + crap roads) and haven't bought a new groupset in 18 years, frameset by a factor of ~11.

CAAD10 frameset bought through this forum: $550 (if I remember correctly...)
Kinlin XR31T wheelset built by me: $360
Dura Ace 9000 groupset purchased at closeout when 9100 came out: $1,230

Taking a look at my recent build. All three of the above mentioned are right in the same ball park. Frame inching out by a couple hundred. I did factor in also tubular tires and after market skewers which definitely add a few bucks to the wheelset option.

I tend to spend big on the frameset, and usually try to find insane deals on parts.

Wheels for me. I've always heard that the biggest bang for the buck are the wheels. I agree.

Group on the Della Santa was more than the frame or wheels.

Usually spend a little more on a nice frameset and have been buying nice groupsets and wheels to go with them.

I voted wheelset, but actually it's groupset, because power meter and ee brakes.
