Sure they are in the bike lane but any smart new yorker knows to avoid the brooklyn bridge. The manhattan bridge is close by and has a dedicated bike path on it.

I think the guy is a tool.

There are wayyyyyy too many people to expect them to stay clear.

A few years ago, I spent a fair amount of time working in Vienna Austria on a number of trips. The sidewalks had well-marked, separate lanes for biking and walking. If you mindlessly end up walking in the bike lane, you hear about it with a subtle bell and a stern look. I learned that quickly.

I think it's hard, especially in a city like New York where there are so many tourists, for people to not accidentally, or somethimes purposefully, walk into or onto the bike path. Living in Santa Barbara I know just to avoid popular streets and the beach bike paths on weekends because of the influx in tourists that come.

I still have the divot in my Campy levers when one of those tourists stepped sideways and hipchecked me into one of the abutments...

The vendors on the bridge are new--that certainly doesn't help matters.
