Look 585

From what I read the Look 585 frame appears to be a near-perfect blend of stiffness, lightness and comfort. I also like the classic look (excuse the pun). Any comments, is it as good as people say? From what read the frame is now out of production. Does anybody have an idea as to where I can find this frame in size small? I want to build it up with 11 speed Campy and Reynolds 32mm tubulars from my current Merida.

They're great bikes! Look in the usual places - ebay, nationwide CL search, and post a "WTB" here in the classifieds once you have enough posts.

Also, look in the "Look" section on the RBR forum. I believe that there may be a Look USA contact on there that has a line on a couple of NOS framesets (unsure of the size...).

"Is it as good as people say?" - Yes. And that includes Thor Hushovd.
I don't put the same demands on a frame I did when I was racing, and never at Thor's level, but I can judge comfort. The 585 seems to have found that sweet spot between performance and all-day ease of riding.
Lugged composite? Geometry? Whatever they did, it works.
Good luck in your search - and, yes, I would say go with the small. Just confirm the effective top tube length against what you currently ride...

If you're looking at the 585, I'd suggest putting the Time VXR on your list as well.

Both are stunning carbon lugged frames from the same era.

I can add that I have a 585. Just got it a few months ago. I had similar expectations to yours based on the descriptions I'd always seen and heard. It does not disappoint. I'll add that I believe I have fitted myself with this Look to be close to perfectly positioned on the bike and that is step one for agreeable handling. I had great confidence in it immediately and after having a few chances to really push it on a descent and even a couple of surprise drifts across debris in a turn, it wants to stay upright and goes where I look.

Good luck and enjoy the search. Just don't rule out something similar as there are many great bikes in the world.

Yes, the Time VXR does seem to have a lot common with the 585! I will seriously contempate that one as well.

The 586 isn't lugged, but I have both and don't notice a difference.
