OT: Dental Implants
Had tooth pulled in Oct and went to a peridonstist to begin implant route. My dentist did bone build up, but perhaps not enough or may not be strong enough. Pricing from my doctor was 3,255 if no build up needed or 3,900 if (what he thinks) some buildup needed during the implant procedure. This is before the crown. Could be upwards of 5,500 or more by time I am done...for 1 tooth!
Sure cost is higher in northeast by most experienced, reputation etc. Can others comment on what they paid? steve |

Yep ~$5,000+ in NYC...for everything, one tooth. The implant post itself is like $1,100 for what is essentially a titanium screw. Remember those overpriced airplane parts people were talking about in the 70s-80s?

A client of mine had all of her teeth replaced with implants but had them done in India for about a third of what it would have cost in Australia, even allowing for flights, accomodation etc. My understanding is that many Indian dentists are trained in the UK/Europe so their skills are comparable to western standards, but you would need to do your own research. But she said she wouldn't do it again......because of the pain, not the quality of the work.

Dentist here and those are high prices but in line with where you live.
Bone graft here $400-600 Implant placement $2000-3000 Crown parts (abutment usually) either rincluded or $200-300 Crown cost $1600-2000 Prices can be fixed and lower if insurance is involved. Expect to pay 10-20% higher for any procedures done by specialist. Best of luck, and as always, second opinions are usually a good idea.

a U.S. option might be
your closest dental school. Students mentored by real DDS. Still a bit o crap shoot but the price should be about half.
I was offered a freebee by the endo who did my extraction. He wanted me to be the guinea pig for being his first implant patient. He was a great endo but he blew my implant. Fell out in my mouth a couple of hours after he did it. He was embarrassed as hell and offered at his cost to send me to reputable implant guy in the hood. The reputable guy was so good, so fast, so confident it blew my mind. I swear he gave me a shot, got out his Makita, and that thing was done in 20 minutes. All good after 5 years.

my partner is mid-stream on a front tooth which broke. Quoted about $3k in Australian dollars, currently at $5 1/2 with all appointments and farnarking around taken into account. All up cost might be about $7k.
Dentists lie then ante up since you're committed to finishing the procedure.

I'm on the tail end of four implants and five new teeth, two solo, and the other three as a bridge. About 13,500 total, out of pocket, and I have a decent insurance plan. That's four Euro trip units. That's how I price things these days, in Europe trip units.
I live in Fairfield county, Ct.. I'm a bit flabbergasted by these commercials I see that claim that an entire implant and new tooth procedure can be done in one day. This whole experience took about fourteen months. You need to be patient and make sure the implants seat well. Although my dentist, when I asked him about these "instant" procedures, said, yeah, he's been to a conference and heard all about it, shaking his head. I don't know, I've been besieged by Murphy's law in this experience, and it ain't over yet.

Medical 'vacations' to other countries, particularly Mexico, are becoming quite common. With the American health care system in shambles (for any years), quality, affordable health care insurance nearly non-existent, along with outrageous costs are driving people to seek alternative sources of needed services.

your quote is within the expected range. even a good plan has a $2k max coverage then the rest is out of pocket on you. your only leverage is to spread the costs over two years so into two different insurance coverage.
I floss, brush like a madman yet my teeth suck. just finished implant #2...and I know one more is on horizon...lucky me, bad DNA.... If you dont fix it, you risk impacting (pardon pun) the neighbor teeth and now you may have a cascading or even worse issues in the future. |

I had it placed over 25 years ago; my primary memory of it now is leaning back in the chair, with the cordless drill driving it in and sweat pouring off me, as I contemplated having a brain biopsy done with a cordless drill if the dentist slipped or I moved...... |

I understand my oral health, bad genes. The doctor is a specialist - this and gum work is all he does (says 500 a year). Liked the doctor, didn't act like an ortho that was busy thinking of his next patient while talking to me. Just wondering if things were inline. Guess on higher end but not wacked.
Needed to do a 3d scan, so that was 325 out of pocket on this visit to inspect the bone structure. Would be worried overseas, especially with bone integrity there goes retirement funds! |

I had veneers done in Thailand for a fraction of the cost here. I was already there so it worked out great, but even if I had flown there just for that it would have been a decent amount less all in versus here. The dentist and offices were better than any I experienced on my middle class health insurance...
This was 5-6 years ago and they are still going strong! |

I've had two done--NYC prices--several years ago, and those sound about right.
My lovely wife recently had an extended work trip to Singapore--and looked into getting dental work done there. Prices are about 1/2 US/NYC prices, and by all reports dentists are well trained and well regulated. So you could pay for a Singapore trip with points, have a nice vaca and still be ahead of the game. (I've got two more that I "should" do--one pulled, one cracked so I feel your pain...) |
