Campy 11; Chorus vs Record
So, I recently got a Super Record group in very nice used condition from EmoryDPTT. I really like it. I'm thinking of upgrading some other bikes. Other than a bit of weight, looks and money, is there any difference between Chorus and Record?
Thanks, Tom |

Not really. You'll never notice them, I think.

I have both - Record and Chorus and I cannot tell the difference. As you said the biggest difference is in weight (which is minimal), cost (not so minimal) and bling affect.
Seriously, both shift nicely. Look good and work well. |

Your wallet is the the place you will notice it the most. Chorus cassettes and chains will save you in the long run. The chorus FD is a bit stiffer (full metal cage), the Campy RS run used the full metal cage.

I have record 10 on two bikes and chorus 11 on two bikes. They all shift well. I like the way the 10-speed hoods look more than the 11-speed but they both feel fine. I have chorus cassettes on all of the bikes because they last longer than record with the ti cogs.

I have all 3, record, chorus and athena. IMO; The best bang for the dollar is athena with chorus shifters. With chorus cassette.

The guts of the shifters are the same. Other than some carbon on the rd and a few ti bits the same. There is no difference in performance or longevity. It is mass and bling.

I always get super caught up in the build when I'm collecting parts and getting ready for a new bike. "It's gotta be record" "it's gotta match" etc.
I have two bikes with centaur, 1 bike with chorus and one bike with record. And to be honest if you switched the groups in my sleep and blind folded me I doubt I could tell the difference. The only way I can tell the centaur group bike is becausei the springs are more worn because I've ridden them for thousands more miles. Ymmv |

Old school traditionalist... So it had to be record. I know it's not any better. Just couldn't learn any new tricks... !

Nope..all the innards, etc are the same. Chorus is the very best value of the 3.

Chorus is by far the best value for money.
AFAIK the main differences are almost cosmetic. Record does have a bit more carbon on the RD, and ceramic crank bearings. Biggest weight saving is in your wallet. BUT - Somehow my SR shifters feel more crisp (could be the placebo effect?) |

I cannot believe people who say that they cannot tell the difference between Record and Chorus. All you have to do is look at them. The Record parts say "Record" on them. And the Chorus parts say "Chorus."
Other than that, I dunno. Those who have taken them apart say that the innards are the same. If there's a performance difference, I'm not sufficiently refined to discern it. |
