Oil and gas and mining is also a huge industry in UT.

It comes down to local control, as a percentage of land the federal government already controls HUGE parts of most Western states and can make life miserable for them. We don't have anything like it here in the east where the states control most land and there isn't much open or declared federal land. Just imagine if all the state parks in NY or NJ became federal land and how that would affect choices the state gov could make.

Most in these states just want local control and management, not being dictated by the whims of bureaucrats in Washington but the government in the capital of their state.

As a cyclist who likes to ride off road sometimes, it's easier to call up your state parks service and work out a new trail or trail maintenance then it is to go deal with someone at the fed gov to get it done..

Nahbs

Is it worth $22? I attended NAHBS in Charlotte a few years ago. I don't have near as much fun walking into a typical bike shop after that experience. It was like being 7 years of age and visiting Santa in the North Pole. Well worth the two hour drive and whatever I paid for admission.

So the looting of our public lands begins

Gov. Paul LePage has asked President Donald Trump to reverse an executive order by the Obama administration that created the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument and return the land to private ownership.

Hard not to keep this non-political as that this is basically a political issue.

Let's try to keep it civil and more on NAHBS as the mods are already getting some complaints.

I haven't read the six pages of discussion yet, but I'm not sure how a discussion on NAHBS devolved into politics So let's try to keep the politics out of this discussion.

Slightly more back to on topic:

For those going/local/familiar with SLC, any suggestions for a hotel? Requirements are:

-Plentiful, easy, free parking for full-size vehicle
-reasonable walking distance of the event (anything less than a mile is fine)
-$100/night or so

Thank you. I'm on a news blackout since the election and want to avoid any political news. I have IBS: "ignorant bliss syndrome". Carry on.

We stayed at "Little America" when attending trade shows in SLC. It was clean, reasonably priced, and within walking distance of the Palace. That was 25 years ago so things could have changed.

Hey, just got this code: LOCALSLC

Close to 10% off for single day ($20!). Ok, it just went from "splurge" to "reasonable." I'm there.

Maybe you could hook up with another member and stay at the Marriott? It's right across the street from Salt Palace.
