The handiness of a small pick up is undeniable, but the feel of a large truck is visceral. I have never owned a large one, seems wasteful to me, but I have driven them and they are fun for a minute or two.
I had a 1987 Toyota PU, 2WD...damn thing was stolen and trashed. Sold it to a company that shipped it to the Dominican Rep. |

It's not a done deal. Nothing about the new Wrangler platform will be a done deal for a while. What you have shown is a one-off show special.
Small, bare-bones pickups are never coming back because they are not profitable. The current Tacoma and Colorado/Canyon is as small, cheap and simple a pickup as any of us will be able to buy new in our lifetimes.

I have said, since circa 2000, that I would buy the first small pickup equipped with a 4-cyl. diesel engine. Now I have to decide whether to buy a Colorado, or whine that it is: - too big in the front - too small in the rear - too expensive - too automatic - too loaded with options - too Thai

Lots of things still in the air here. The new Wrangler is still in development, and there is still speculation that a Wrangler pickup could be Ram-based (ugh), so who knows . . .

I would love to see the true Small Pickups make a come back. They are very practical and perfect vehicle for a teenage boy.
The 1986 Isuzu Pup that I paid $4600 for was the best vehicle purchase I have ever made. I changed the oil ever 20,000 miles or so and drove it into the Fn ground. It was still running half decent when I dumped in with 200K on it.

Absolutely! That wrangler looks nice. All I want is an 80s Toyota Hilux with a machine gun option on the back.
https://youtu.be/xnWKz7Cthkk A cheap, smaller, reliable, plow through anything (within reason) 4x4 truck and SUV is most welcome. Though that Hilux Top Gear took to the North pole pretty much ticks all the boxes. If they would only bring that to the US market. One of the biggest regrets I have was selling a 1997 Toyota 4Runner. All the 4Runners after 2000 or so have been hideous hatchet jobs, with the newer model being even more unsightly than the one before. I looked into getting a truck earlier on this year. Wanted a small truck but due to a must have ability to plow I was learned that nothing short of a F250 will do for serious plowing. The new Diesel Ram 1500 looks great, awesome motor, but holly smokes that thing is massive and cant handle a real plow. Another thing that blew my mind when looking at trucks was the high price and longevity of some of these trucks (especially the diesel ones). |

That's just a Hummer under another name.

You need 4WD in New Jersey?
That's like all to bozos I worked with that had to have 4WD Silverados. They never used the 4WD or hauled anything bigger than an Igloo cooler. I parked my '09 extended cab Ranger w/Leer shell next to a new Colorado. My ride disappeared in the Colorado's shadow. I guess the sport UTE will be a thing of the past since Ford and Holden are ending production in Australia. Sad they couldn't ave brought those into the States. |

I've been in both...not even close.
The original Hummer H1 was a capable vehicle, H2 is a bloated tick that most folks who buy rarely ever take off-road. Mo fo show then go. William |

Ford is talking about bringing back the Ranger, but I'd imagine I wouldn't be interested at all. These mid-size trucks just don't do it for me. |

I had a 1994 Ranger. Bare bones, no power steering, only am/fm, manual...slow as a turd is right, but it was a non-nonsense basic truck.

To add, more commercial vendors and workers using Ford Transit and other vehicles in lieu of small pick-ups. If you have a need, there is a vehicle to meet it, the need is being met differently then it had.
