Do consumers actually go to these things?
I walked away from many booths because the staff was too busy talking to their industry bros and/or they couldn't be bothered to look up from their damn phones.

Talking

Feedback is correct, as an exhibitor for past 3 years, I think the audience saw a 1/3 loss. Day 3 was wrapping up at 12 noon (2 pm official close). White Industries, scene: Thomson Masterpiece seatpost in carbon with carbon cradle. Who would've thought?

I have been there as an exhibitor many many times including last year. This year, nope. And a big part of it was the organizers still think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. And they have been losing people for years cause they won't listen to the people paying the bills. I had one of the guys chew me out online for problems i had that THEY created!

And yes, trade shows can work. Eurobike has a waiting list. Many booths are piggy backed cause it's the only way to get in the show. Just look at nahbs. Its gonna be huge next year. I am planning the same size or bigger next year and i'm happy to do it cause they have listened to the exhibitor and taken the advice. They don't just push you away. thats the key.

The media preview event on Tuesday night was a real mixed bag. A few interesting products, but completely amateurish presentation. Probably a better deal for the organizers (30 companies at $1.5K/ea) than the press and exhibitors.

Jeff Jones does Interbike on the cheap.

He flew in with two bikes and walked around the show for 2 or 3 days. Every time I saw him he was talking to someone about the bikes. It works for him.

Yeah, Jeff's method definitely works.

His new 2.5" rise Loop bar is going to make riders of frames with short head tubes very happy.

^Wow, had to look up more pictures of that one. The bar looks pretty good but the fork is wild!

In case anyone has doubts about that, it becomes immediately obvious when you're passed on a crowded MUP by one going about 25mph.

I got passed by an e-bike climbing Paris Mountain the other day. Not just passed, the guy caught me, passed me, and was out of sight all withing 30 seconds. And he was wearing sneakers, khaki shorts and a T-shirt.

I scoured Strava to make sure he didn't upload that ride, ha ha!

But in all honesty, he probably wanted to go out and have fun descending the mountain (I still get a kick out of it). So he got a little boost on the way up and probably had a blast on the way down. It's another person riding a bike, so I am good with it. . . just don't take my KOMs!

Roger that. There is a time and place for these new conveyances. I've been passed on the road by them. No problem there. As a society we're still trying to figure out if it's appropriate for them to go everywhere a fully human-powered bike can go today. Ultimately, that will be for the politicians to decide.

Agreed. That is just badass.

Did the bottom just fall out of the used steel market?

I really wish that Masi would have spec'd more modern brake calipers on the GC. Not wild about those cranks, either.

Not at an MSRP of $2700, it didn't.
