I got the Park chain cleaner. Problem is that most of my bikes have quick links and I switched to NFS chain lube after getting the chain cleaner. After wiping down the chain after every ride (and yes, I didn't realize how important that was in the past!), I now realize that I don't need the chain cleaner for regular cleaning, and for occasional deep cleaning, dilute Simple Green in a bottle (as many here have recommended) will do much better. However, I'll use the chain cleaner occasionally on the wife's old 10-speed, which doesn't have a quick link and I think it won't take one.

I use a chain cleaner to wash the chain on the bike but in my experience the sonicator gets a chain way cleaner. I took a chain cleaned with the chain cleaner, (3 times with simple green) to work and put the 'clean' chain in a bottle with hexanes and sonicated in a Branson UltraSonic bath (it's about a $1000 sonicator). The solvent turns black which doesn't worry me but the amount of insoluble grit that collected at the bottom of the bottle was surprising.

I might need to improve my on bike chain cleaning technique.

Ultrasonic cleaners are the easiest option if you have the money to spend, https://www.kemet.co.uk/blog/cleanin...asonic-cleaner
