Tony, how about you call them and get a price and not bash on Velomine? You go from pro-UK shopping to being Pro-LBS..you make no sense. They quoted me two days ago for a Record group at $1,650..they put it higher on there because they have to "list" it at a certain price. You don't make an effort to educate yourself very well before you make comments. I bet you there are many forum members who can keep vouching for Velomine..

Call? Why? I can see the price here: 2012 Campagnolo Record 11 Speed 9 piece Group $2,495.00

And how am I "bashing" Velomine by comparing their prices to what I paid to my LBS?

Wrong (if that were true, they would say "call for price"). Click "buy" and your credit card be charged $2,495.

Why do you keep arguing this "point"...???

Give Ben a call and he will give you the best price he can on any given gruppo.

If he can't match/beat the UK shops he'll tell you.

Are you saying that if I didn't "know" to call Ben, that I would be charged the list price?

I'd encourage anyone shopping to call David or Ben at Velomine before assuming this is the price you'd pay.

Tony T, I'd advise ya to give it a rest for a bit. Right or wrong, you're not making friends by arguing. This place is normally pretty calm and when necessary, we can agree to disagree. There are a lot of folks here with huge collective knowledge of things bicycle.

Guess it's still winter in Tony T's neck of the woods.

Forecast calls for sunny here tomorrow and planning to ride. Campy 10.

Cheers all!

This is one of the weirdest threads in recent memory. My takeaway is that I should shop at my LBS, as long as my LBS is a mail-order company in England. Noted.

Nope. Like lots of things 'bike', cannot order direct from the manufacturer.

But even at $2900, that still quite a lot below the minimum recognized margin to break even at the end of the year fort a typical retail shop..you know, pay your fixed costs, pay the variable costs and make ZERO net profit, plus not losing any money, adding debt.

I suspect the LBS makes it up other places, like we do, soft goods, service, things that have a decent margin. I sold 2011 SR Ti for $3100.

I'd go a step further since I started the mess.
