OT: Where to sell vintage liquor
I found a bunch of vintage japanese whiskeys in my grandparents house.
She could really use the money and they are all still sealed. Does anyone here know where the best place to sell vintage liquor is? If this is inappropriate then feel free to delete this mods. Thanks! |

Can you take a picture of what is there? I'm sure a few folks here can give you a going rate on such things. I wouldn't know the first thing about pricing if I found a place to sell...good luck to you and your cause.

Not sure if retail locations can purchase from individuals, but...if they can, this place is super high end.
https://www.wallywine.com eBay doesn't allow the sale of liquor, but people get around that by saying the bottle is vintage/antique. If they are really valuable, an auction house would probably be your best bet, but it's a slow process. Good luck!

That year of the hare bottle would be pretty rare I'd think. I hope the whiskey fan paceliners see this and chime in on what these may be worth!

Oops. Sorry if my line of questioning pushed this into the realm of sales. I've never been disciplined enough to find myself in the care of vintage liquor, but I know there is sometimes incredible wealth associated with such things. My biggest fear would be selling a bottle for a couple hundred bucks only to find out it's worth a couple thousand. Especially when you consider the motive for such a sale. Grandmoms and Granddads deserve top dollar in my book!

The challenges here are two - first finding a buyer and second getting it to them without confiscation risk.

I've shipped local wine to lots of friends and family in the past. And purchased through the mail before. I recall certain states make it hard to do openly, but I don't believe I know anyone in those states...

Call an auction house and ask. A friend recently went through this with wine his grandfather had and it turned out a bottle of liquor was actually one of the more valuable things and it had just been in their basement on a shelf for 40+ years.
They had someone come from the auction house to look after they first called. |

shipping among private parties is illegal, and has BATF risk. this is not to say it doesn't happen; only to remind that if confiscated, poof gone done. hard to mask the sound of sloshing liquid these days as olive oil.
