Shifting gears... Rim Tape for Belgium C2?

Is velox still the gold standard? Is it wide enough? Got some flats because of shifty rim tape and latex tubes.

You need rim tape, valve stems, sealant, and tires. Easy to do.

C2 isn't tubeless compatible iirc. Do not use road tubeless on them.

Does the rim matter as much as the tire?

C2+ is tubeless compatible

C2 was not

Don't confuse the two

Velox comes in different widths, so yes velox will work with your rims.

I use 2 wraps of good, tubeless tape on my wheel builds. Works great with tubes, works great with tubeless(yes, only one layer needed for tubeless unless ya gotta put a tube in there to get home)...DT, 3m, others.

Any 21mm tape should be fine. I like the stretchy rubber kind.

My LBS told me a while back that HED started specifying thin tubeless tapes like Stans instead of cloth like Velox for the C2. I got flats with my Velox due to shifting, as apparently you have. With Stans in there, back to just pinch and puncture flats.

Velox is about as cool as using a rotary phone. It may work, but there are better ways. Tubless tape is the way to go.

I have Velox 21 mm in 1 set of Belgium rims, Stan's in another. They both work just fine. No flats so far due to rim tape using Michelin Pro 4's and Now Continental 4000.

Velox may be old school however it does a much better job then the new fangled thin tapes of reducing heat build up from heavy downhill braking reaching and damaging tubes. If you ride the plains not an issue, us alpine inhabitants it is a concern.

If you are running butyl tubes go with a snap on rim strip. HED makes one specifically for the C2 rim and it is a red color. Otherwise the Ritchey yellow snap on works well too. Tried out both on C2 times and had no issues with butyl tubes.

However if you are going latex then I say get a tubeless rim tape because the snap on rim strip might not always be seated perfectly centered on the valve hole. That could be an issue with latex.

Also, I had a HED wheel that the previous owner put Velox. Found a spot where the previous owner put a empty gel wrapper in a section of the rim bed. Turns out the Velox shifted and didn't cover a spoke hole anymore in that area. This person used too narrow a width Velox tape for this wheel. It was also starting to shift in other areas too. This was on a wheel that had about 400 miles on it total.
