The funniest part of all this is assuming the black community needs a 45% discount. All the black dudes I ride w/ have bikes (and cars) more expensive than mine and they didn't get a discount of them.

However, if another company offers this. Please post up. I have some friends who will cash in on the deal and get me a bike at a nice discount.

It’s funny (not) how the same folks who think it’s okay for Christian bakers to refuse wedding services to gay couples scream bloody murder if Riv gives discounts black people. The hypocracy of the right knows no bounds.

How dare you infringe on my right to discriminate against you!

But seriously, this discount was for anyone. As long as you "identify as Black" (Riv's words, not mine), you should be entitled to this discount. What's the issue?

There is a card game called "3 Card Monte" the dealer of cards has a line
patter to distract you while he steals your money with his fixed card game.

The noise & fury around the Riv discount plan is patter, you need figure out
what the dealer/provocateur of the cards is up to.

The byline reads “then the lawyers called” but article really glosses over the legal aspect of the proposal. I guess the legal aspects aren’t what Outside’s readers are looking for but would make for a good read.

Plus it omits mentioning that a number of long time customers informed Riv they would never buy from them again. This was noted in one of Grant’s blog posts (the Blugg or whatever it’s called).

I'm interested in the legal aspects too. Wouldn't Rivendell's proposed pricing, even if well intentioned, violate California's Unruh Civil Rights Act?

https://www.dfeh.ca.gov/unruh/

Quote:
The following examples represent potential violations of the Unruh Civil Rights Act. Other situations may also qualify as Unruh Act violations depending on the specific circumstances.
  • A hotel charges a $100 service fee only to guests of a certain racial group but not to other guests of the hotel
  • A doctor refuses to treat a patient who has been diagnosed as HIV positive
  • A same-sex couple is denied a table at a restaurant even though there are vacant tables available and other customers are seated immediately
  • A visually impaired individual is told their service animal is not allowed in a store
  • Charging men and women different prices for comparable services, such as clothing alterations, haircuts, dry cleaning, or drinks at a restaurant or bar
  • Promoting a business with “ladies night” discounts on admission and services

It’s more likely the cost and/or hassle of fighting harassing lawsuits.

The same reason why a lot of law suits are settled rather than fought to the end.

Just accepting that the sin was committed would be a good start
