Cycling death @ Police/Fire fighter games

I've ridden this loop dozens of times. Pretty flat with one short, steep downhill with a rt hand sweep at the bottom. It sounds like someone blew a tire on that descent & one dies with two more critical.

Been training with a friend who was supposed to compete in this event, in the group after this one. My understanding is they canceled the entire event after this unfortunate accident.

The downhill section isn't particularly tricky (actually, I think the uphill off camber left turn after the second descent is a tougher turn), but it is fast. I was regularly hitting the mid 40's without any tuck during our sessions. Others, it was rumored, were in the low 60's. Not much margin for error there when you have a flat, with woods or a low wall to either side.

Ugh. Terrible. I was just talking to a buddy going to the event a few weeks ago.

Awful.

I do a 24-hr charity ride in Indianapolis every year, and have spent a fair amount of time riding with a couple of Indy Metro cops who also do it. I asked a detail cop why they weren't there last weekend, and he told me it was because they were at the games.
