OT: Another year, another Year in Review by Dave Barry

I look forward to this column every year.

In other financial news, more and more people are buying “cryptocurrencies,” which appeal to investors because the cryptocurrency market is not controlled by the government. Instead it is controlled by 13-year-old Justin Weeblemonger of Teaneck, N.J., who runs the whole shebang out of his PlayStation 5. (Justin also controls airline fares.)

In sports, Georgia defeats Alabama in the AT&T Ram Trucks Allstate Capital One Disney Bob’s Burgers Dr. Pepper Gatorade Siri Taco Bell Bowl to become champions of professional college football…

Ack!
Syntax error!

Not as bad as a punctuation error, e.g.:
Let’s eat grandma
Let’s eat, grandma

I'm glad that some of you enjoyed it!

The article I linked to only goes through June. Here's a review of the entire year: https://www.miamiherald.com/living/l...270398307.html.

I thought he'd make Tom Brady the "thread" but it was funny nonetheless.

Having worked in the newspaper bidness for eons, I remember them all. My favorite line, from the 1988 column: "President Reagan, inspecting the drought, shakes hands with some corn."

In 1993, my brother and I spent two weeks touring Japan. When we returned, we saw that there was a book called Dave Barry Does Japan. OMG, he got it completely and utterly nailed, we never laughed so hard.

Think of the time I could’ve saved watching and reading the news when this is all I really needed.

I was afraid that Dave Barry had given up his Year in Review. I'm so glad to find that he did one for 2023, although later than usual: https://www.freepressonline.com/news...3005b3cc3.html.

Quote:
It was a year of reckoning, a year in which humanity finally began to understand that it faces an existential threat, a threat unlike any we have ever faced before, a threat that will wreak havoc on our fragile planet if we fail to stop it — and it may already be too late.

We are referring, of course, to pickleball.

Nobody knows where it started. Some scientists believe it escaped from a laboratory in China. But whatever its origin, it has been spreading like rancid mayonnaise ever since, to the point where pickleball courts now cover 43 percent of the continental U.S. land mass, subjecting millions of Americans to the inescapable, annoying POP of the plastic ball and the even more annoying sound of Boomers in knee braces relentlessly telling you how much fun it is and demanding that you try it...
