is this the wrong lockring to use with an r45d hub?
This video shows a Chris King R45D rear hub with lockring installed. You can see how the adjustment cap (that bulbous silver part) sits flush with the lockring:
On my hub, it does not sit flush with the lockring. There is about 2mm of a cylindrical part of the adjustment cap that doesn't slide beneath the lockring: This causes the rotor to hit the caliper (even without the pads installed and the mounting bracket pushed all the way out): I notice the guy in the video is using a different, thru-axle only lockring. I'm using a QR hub and the internal diameter of my lockring is insufficient to accept the cylindrical portion of the adjustment cap. Can someone help me figure out whether I am correct in my assumption that I have the wrong lockring, and if so, which lockring I need to get the cap to fit, given I can't use the thru-axle model in the video? |

Why can't you?

My understanding was that I wouldn't want to use a thru-axle lockring on a quick release hub, but I just called Chris King and that's what they say to do, so the answer to the question is to use part SM-HB20 despite the fact that it says it's incompatible.

The one in the picture/video is different than the one you posted.
The one in the video is for a thru axle. Says so on the lockring. the one you posted a picture of is a standard version for Shimano hubs. They don't fit everyones. Especially if it has a large or oversized axle like the CK hub does. You need this one. http://www.artscyclery.com/descpage-...Fcq2wAod-FMDCA |

Ah yes that seems to be the source of my confusion. It's only compatible with certain thru axles, rather than compatible only with thru axles.
