Total BS. Why do I need to go to the dealer?! I own the car, have the vin and registration and yet I have to go prove to the jag-offs at the dealer that I REALLY want the money. And I realize it's the not the dealer's fault but all this activation crap is is a way to get customers back on the lot to try and sell cars. Well guess what, the owner of the VW dealer where we bought our car has a Honda lot right down the street. My wife loves the CRV, maybe I'll pop in and go look at them after I activate my gift card.

I hope this whole thing bankrupts VW. I will NEVER buy another VW. FU VW.

I'm not sure exactly why we have to come in, but I did it today and it took less than two minutes. They didn't try to sell me anything but they did offer me a free detail after I had used up the $500 dealer card.

I get the frustration. Thing is, at some point you have to get to the dealership to use one of the $500 cards anyway.

Got my cards. Going to activate them tomorrow. My dealer card will get a workout in a couple of weeks as I need an oil change, fuel filter change, and an alignment before I put the snows on. I'm going to try and save the Visa card for tires late next year.

it'll be good for vw. Only people that have a reasonable proof of a loss will get a settlement.

Activated yesterday, about 60 seconds, registration, VIN check. No sales talk at all, a thanks and I'm on my way. Gonna use the VW one for my 40,000 mile tune. Looked at a GSW, nice car, much more than I paid for my TDI, 5MT, 1.8T.

Yeah, mine is at 38,500, so the 40K, but I do most of it myself. My local dealer does the oil change for $59.95. The parts would cost me $50. They do the fuel filter change for $80. The parts are $35 and I'd rather not douse myself with diesel and hook up the VCDS, so it's worth it. They charge me another $10 to pull and drain the lower intercooler hose.

The GSW is not an option for me. I want the 6MT like I have now, and even the 5MT is available only on the S, which is cloth only. Not an option. The only substitute is the GTI. Great car.

Following this thread throughout the handwringing and anger, and I get all that, but don't understand what seems to be: "nothing will make me happy here". Tho you do seemed pleased with the gift cards.

Quite the opposite. I'll take what I can get. My point was that this guy is a class action attorney. Class action suits always benefit the lawyers way more than than the plaintiffs. I'd be more than shocked if the settlement was anything more than a check for a few hundred bucks. Full purchase price plus damages? Gimme a break.

You've already got way more than that.

I think it's a good thing and Shovel thinks it's status quo. It's probably somewhere in the middle but only time will tell.
