I'm not fond of stuff in my jersey pockets, especially in the winter under my shell, so I broke down and put a small frame bag on. Mini-pump, tube, Wolftooth multi-tool, tire levers, reading glasses. Adds 289g. Then in further un-weenie-ing I put on the Varia mount (26g) and the Spurcycle bell (41g).

Nicer day than yesterday, 37F instead of 24F! Tomorrow even warmer, then a bunch of rain :-(

Marc, that bike is a hideous monstrosity and I'm ashamed for you to be riding it. PM me with a price and I'll save you from future embarrassment.

You're lucky to have a friend like me.

I fear that it is now too heavy to ship.

Rode today to the highest point on MV reachable via a paved road, called Radar Hill. About 300 lofty feet above sea level. It's 11% average grade, max 13.5%, and today was my best time ever. I attribute that more to the excitement of the new weenie bike than the 2-3% reduction in total weight of bike plus rider It's fun though.

I still can't understand why this bike feels more stable/less twitchy than the CAAD10 I had, which on paper is a similar geometry.

Marc, I feel that bike is either so light that it's not good enough exercise for you, or it's too heavy and therefore just totally yucky.
A lose-lose situation.
As a friend, I am here to extricate you from it. I'm reaching out to save you. Take my hand, and my money, and I will deliver you from that most un-Goldilocks-always-imperfect of bikes.

That looks like a wonderful place to ride, and that is also a wonderfully composed picture.

Two from the ride, one from the post ride.

It was an (A) overcast (B) weekday (C) winter morning and the park had (D) been closed to vehicular traffic for the last few days due to icy road conditions.
All this added up to 2.5 wonderfully peaceful hours of riding on the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, during which time I saw (1) a trash collection truck, (2) a park ranger SUV, and (3) two civilian vehicles. And dozens, possibly over a hundred, deer, including some really amazing bucks with huge Horned King looking crowns.

Then I came home and Finny was being all skuxx, like he was kicking it with his homies over across 110th street.
Just like his dad. So proud.

Those photos of Skyline Drive bring back great memories! We still have family in Rappahannock County and get to go for visits at times, but I sure miss that place a lot . . .

Our weather here is . . . wintery. I was desperate enough the other day that I went out for 2+ hours in the cold (~35 degrees Fahrenheit) and rain (steady rain the entire time). I was dressed for the temperature, but not for the rain. I got so cold. So very cold.

Still worth it.

After five months off the bike (we've been abroad this past while), I couldn't help myself. Felt so good to be riding again.

Guess what I got to do right after the ride? (It was time to service those bearings and replace that chain anyway.)

Nice! I started riding oh so many decades ago in Santa Cruz but didn't get to Butano until the Rapha Prestige in 2022. Unfortunately, it rained shortly before we arrived at the end of the pavement coming out of Big Basin and there was a sh*t ton of mud before starting the lovely descent. One of my teammates was riding his Rock Lobster with long reach calipers and the mud was too much. Eventually he had to resort to cyclocrossing his way down. Would like to try it in better conditions.
