Fortunate to have lots of spare time lately so have been trying to get through my stack of unread books, and hopefully revisit some that I read years ago.

Just finished: Raven Strategem (Yoon Ha Lee), Out (Natsuo Kirino)
Now reading: Absurdistan (Gary Shteyngart)

- That's on my list for sure! I was set to read I Claudius, but having just watched the BBC series and on and off watching the unreleased film version on youtube, I'm pretty sure I've got the gist.

- It's been a Ballard and Paolo Bacigalupi summer. Society breaking down
(Ballard - Short Stories, High-Rise, Crash) and post collapse/food crash (Wind-Up Girl, Short Stories)

If you like post-apocalyptic / survivalist thrillers, check out "The Jakarta Pandemic" and "The Perseid Collapse" (4 books) by Steven Konkoly

historical fiction, first person account/memoirs of a Roman legionary from his time as a boy joining the Legions, and his rise thru the ranks with Julius Caesar and Augustus.

Pretty interesting recounting of this time in history and the interplay of the historical figures.

Cheers!

Are you familiar with Dan Carlin's "hardcore history" podcast? He did he a great overview of the conquest of Gaul.

Just Finished Children of Time. Pretty good sci-fi if you're into that. Also good if you're into anthropology/ sociology as it deals with what a sentient, evolved spider society might be like.
