My cycle clothing goes in the machine under a cold/cold cycle using Charlie's Soap, just because powdered detergents are proven to clean better than liquids, and Charlie's is economical. Everything is line dried because heat is not friendly to the materials, especially the elastics.
As for casquettes, I was them by hand in a bucket, then line dry. If I throw them in the washer with ANYTHING, the brims get beat up, bent, and cracked.

Dryer kills all clothes, but especially those with stretch. I wash with normal cycle and hang dry. For my wool layers (increasingly part of my off-season wardrobe), i just wear it into the shower. Bonus: can add some conditioner to keep it from shrinking.

Same as many here. Gentle cycle with mild detergent and hang dry.

Delicate cycle, cold, with Nathan Sport wash, hang dry anything most everything.
I like the idea of the garment bags...

Cold water, dr bronners liquid soap, hang to dry. Our washer has a sports cycle, so I use it and assume it is similar to delicate.
I try to wash the clothes pretty quickly after wearing to avoid the stink getting set into the fabric. |

I use the "cold wash" setting on a LG front loader (longer cycle, fast spin) with Kirkland liquid detergent (similar to tide), hang dry. Kits that are many years old still look almost new. That's for poly blend stuff, I am a little more gentle with 100% wool usually.

Kit in the bottom of shower while showering and then rinsed well, wrung out and hung to dry.
I learned this from a Brazillian National Team trainer years ago. He said that's how they did it on the road instead of going to laundromats every night. But I do put my socks in the washing machine. Go figure. |

Just don't have the time to wash them separately and it's not enough laundry.. it'd be a waste of soap and water.
We do wash 99% of everything cold cycle, which is what all the cycling clothes seem to require, and I hang dry. Never really had any trouble other than black bibs fading a bit over years. More of a problem with the Assos bibs but that's partly cause they take like 4x longer than others to fall apart. Plenty of other brands they'd fall apart before they'd fade cause the stitching wasn't well done. The money vs time just doesn't work out at all to do a more time-intensive process. I would put my Assos bibs in the delicates bags they come with but the bag would often not retain the bibs through the cycle. I could go look for better bags I guess. Just got a couple of Garneau jerseys in the mail yesterday and I was disappointed to see they say delicate too, which the older ones didn't IIRC. I have Garneau jerseys going back to 2001 that have been stuck in the regular laundry all these years without fading. Last edited by benb; 03-20-2024 at 07:11 AM. |

Regular cycle for me. At least for the synthetic stuff.
I don't use anywhere as much detergent as is recommended on the jug - ie half cap, full cap. More like a tablespoon or two depending on load size. I used hot for years but now do mostly warm water. Regular dryer mode as well for most stuff. Wool stuff I do delicate and hang dry. All this cuz I'm just too lazy to hand wash most of my clothes. I don't own Rapha priced stuff but I'm not wearing Amazon stuff either. Can't say I've noticed any accelerated wear and tear due to washing machine roughness. |
