i did, got beat up on.
was over 90 degrees so i was sweatin' like the fat pig that i am. didn't crash out, beat one guy, won a RIDE BMC shirt (RUN DMC style) and a wheel set in raffle. had a friend out in Portland do her very first race (beginner cat) and she won. |

Yup I raced on Saturday at the Grand Prix of Ithaca here in michigan. It was the first race on the calendar. Also, just before my Cat 3 race as I was checking out the course it started to pour and continued for probably at least 1/2 the race which made it even more interesting. I guess if I am going to get rained on it is much better when it is in the 70s vs the 40s. I didn't crash, I probably wasnt going fast enough to crash. As expected I continued my streak of sub par results from last season. I still had fun and won some zevlin leg shaving cream.

First race of the season for me was on Sunday, Quad Cross in Maynard, MA. I took 3rd in the Cat 4/5 35+. I felt pretty strong, but the first 2 guys just rode away from me. Fun race, dusty, dry, nothing too technical but an interesting course nonetheless. I hung with EBaumann a bit, he took 3rd in the Cat 4/5 (under 35) race after some mechanical issues on lap 1.

Last weekend I placed my highest ever, proportionately anyway - 44 of 125 in the Nittany C field.
Pretty pleased with my result, though I think I have to start setting some goals, since last year as soon as I did that I saw results. Not to mention I'm starting out the season better than I did all last season. I suspect it's possible that's because so many people I know have moved to the B race. Charm City next weekend! |

Just wanted to say that I'm liking the cross crowd more and more. I was out all day working in the western lowlands of Boulder County. Numerous stupid roadies, (was always proud to be one of them), some riding on closed roads, others three abreast, weaving, taking snaps with their smart phones, looking at the detritus, while we were trying to get to a valve so people could have water again. Several near misses; we were driving slowly.
Encountered a half dozen solo cx riders on dirt roads, out training, aware of their surroundings, and courteous. It was great to see some folks out there who weren't trying to get the best image for social media. If that was any of you all, thanks! |

I was at the cross race on B-More today. I rode there on my motorcycle to spectate. Those Sachs bikes are much nicer looking in person. They are burnt orange (not red like in the shots above) and the graphics are nice on both the bike and the kits.

Speaking of mud, there definitely was some, or at least some slick hairpins today. Imo, the second day was better than the first because of that. Of course, yesterday about 15 people DNFed in the men's 4/5 race, and today 38 DNFed. Same size total field. |
