Where are the used rim brake frames headed??

I’d have considered this if I could trade my vamoots rsl disc for frame only. The difference I can get selling it is offset by the hassle doing it. But I have enough components to build more bikes than I can reasonably house as it is, so a full bike build isn’t happening…

This is a very good point:
Many Moots owners are totally devoted to cycling. These zealots have enough other bikes and parts laying around to build a new frame up.

So is this trade-in program aimed at dentists who want the latest but don't want to mess with building bikes?

It's an incentive to a customer to keep buying Moots, versus watching a customer walk across the showroom to a different Ti manufacturer.

I suspect that the belief is they can keep you in the fold, and money talks. I think they believe the lifetime value of a Moots customer is tens of thousands of dollars. I think they want to make that happen.

Supply and demand.
This increases demand and the $2000 off of retail is still more $$ than they sell the bikes to retailers, or at least the same as the Express.
It will be interesting to hear what they get for trade ins. In Steamboat there are a lot 90's 26" YBB's

From Moots email today:
"A few weeks ago we introduced the Moots Trade-Up Program to Moots owners ready for an upgrade. We've been blown away by the response and we'll be excited to show you some success stories in future social media."

Don't want to start a new thread, but Moot's latest launch is here: https://bikerumor.com/mxc-or-moots-c...rom-steamboat/

No outrage. It's fine. It's ok. it will do what they say it will do. I have some nits to pick about the geometry, but that just might be personal preference.

It has to be hard to make a Ti hardtail exciting, but this is just a super snooze-fest. I can't imagine why anyone would buy this bike other than the fact that you are a super Moots fan. I guess that is ok if there are enough of those. I just don't see any compelling reason other than that to buy this bike. Am I off base?

What do you mean by your reference to dentists?

If I had $10 Grand burning a hole in my pocket I'd love to have that bike. I have no need for a full squishy for the riding I do. A hard tail is perfect.

I am sure it is a fine bike for the right terrain, but for Moots to call that bike "OUR MOST PROGRESSIVE HARDTAIL EVER" they're sort of confessing how behind the times they are

The new Moots hardtail doesn't look all that different from my Baxter aside from the reach and flat bar. I love my Baxter for everything they say this bike is supposed to be, but it's a drop bar bike.

The Baxter may be my favorite XC bike as it just rides so good on xc single track as well as gravel and pretty good on the pavement. I am sure the new hardtail will be great for the intended purpose and I think there is still a large market for folks who prefer xc trails to the more progressive modern bikes with more Enduro geometry.

I like the slacker front end of modern trail bikes, but I am still not sold on 77 degree seat tube angles, but they do ride awesome on the downhills with the dropper post down!

Dentists meaning people who buy the latest and greatest bikes since they have disposable income.

As in, this new S-Works gravel bike with internally routed ceramic bearings is gonna be a huge hit with dentists.

I think Moots is doing some creative marketing here and I hope it works out well for them.

This program isn't aimed at the typical Paceliner. There's a lot of Moots love here, and Moots owners, but am I wrong in guessing that most were bought used, or as a frameset, not as a complete from Moots or a dealer?

It seems to me that their business model may have been more successful when the shops weren't full of carbon bikes. Their bread and butter has to be the person with disposal income who likes to ride but doesn't know about the nuts and bolts of bikes, doesn't wrench on their bikes, and wants to go into a shop and have a knowledgeable salesperson hook them up with a bike. They're not reading about bikes online and once they buy the bike they'll keep it and ride it for years. And they never sell the last bike when they get a new one, can't be bothered. I know one of these riders very well.

Today I'd think Moots' competition are bikes like the Aethos or one of the Enve models, and the buyer may well prefer that state-of-the-art carbon bike. A custom bike wouldn't occur to them. A good dealer will get them out the door set up right.

So to this type of rider, this trade-in program gets them going. They've been thinking it might be nice to have wider tires, more gears, maybe disc brakes. They have loved their Moots and have that brand loyalty to begin with. This hooks them so they don't go get a Specialized for that next bike. And perhaps some of the trade-ins will find their way to folks with smaller bank accounts.

For me, and I suspect most of us here, a new complete stock bike costing over $10K isn't the best value proposition. My Bingham didn't cost me more than a stock Moots, it's exactly what I wanted in every detail, and built up with a eclectic mix that suits me. Sure, I had to wait four months for the frame to be built. The last new complete stock bike I bought was my Peugeot UO8 in 1970. Every other bike has been either used, or built up from a new frameset. But I know I'm a part of a very niche part of the cycling market (as are many of you!).
