That's some 2023 stage 17 vuelta karma right there.

It seems likely that Vingegaard will not be back in time for the Tour de France, or if by some miracle he does make it to the start line, he won't be in top form. With Wout Van Aert also recovering from injuries, and Christophe LaPorte taking over leadership for the Giro, who will be Visma-Lease a Bike's leader at the Tour? Will the reins of TdF leadership be turned over to Sepp Kuss?

If I were Visma, my strategy would be to keep Vingegaard home from France and hope he can get a proper build up for the Vuelta.

For the TdF, I would make my primary plan to have this year be a Wout unleashed tour, where he goes for stage wins and the green jersey without having to do domestique work in between.

Then I'd let Sepp Kuss ride for GC, but without the team support that Vingegaard would have received (but without the team counterattacks like in the Vuelta).

This makes sense to me. And it avoids a rerun of the buildup-then-letdown that was recently perfected by a rider Vingo likes to compare himself to, one Chris Froome.

I hope he’s able to be competitive at the TdF but I’m not too optimistic. We’ll see. That’s a bad bunch of injuries to return from so quickly.

I really want Jonas to be in the TDF. To be beat down by Tadej

That’s a really bad bunch of injuries. Even as young as he is TdF level recovery seems beyond optimistic.

I agree but I would not count him out, the guy obviously has amazing abilities.
It could end up being an epic battle with Pog, Roglic and Evenepoel.

At least he wasn't turkey hunting with his brother-in-law. Maybe he was on a trainer as part of his rehab while in hospital.

This is not the dream TDF dual I'd anticipated, but I'll take it.

A (maybe) tired out Pog from the Giro vs. a busted-up-and-still recovering Jonas.

It does have some intrigue: Can Pog pull of the most difficult grand tour double? If Jonas somehow pulls off a win, he has to be considered as one of the GOATs of the TDF.

Only downside for Pog, is that a TDF win this year over a wounded Jonas might have an asterisk beside it for some fans.
