My understanding is they replace broken cranks, even if they previously passed inspection.

Are there any Shimano 11 speed chainrings to purchase for these "special cranks"?
Let's say I need new chainring cause I damaged mine. |

I hope this has not been posted here already. But this is the natural result of this process of inspections. Today’s pass is tomorrow’s fail.

Does Shimano replace dental work as well?

The problem is that this is problem is one, at least partially, of internal corrosion.
Anyone who has dealt with corrosion of any sort knows, it doesnt sleep. So if you have something inspected and looks OK today, definitely no guarantee it will look OK tomorrow or the next day. I am also totally skeptical that the damage mechanism could even be spotted from the outside of the crank with bare eyes, and if you could spot it, it's way too late. At this point, even if the possibility of failure remains "small", I would not regularly ride these cranks.

What a mess. I completely understand why LBSs don't want anything to do with this, exactly because of this kind of outcome.
