In case you haven't read the Classifieds sticky in a while

Some years ago Angry added the following in response to requests from many members:

Quote:
It is highly encouraged, when a listing you have placed is sold, edit the title of the post to :SOLD. (after the original subject line)
This is superior to adding "SOLD" to the post text and far superior to a follow-on post stating "Sold".

In case the interface is preventing you from doing this, here's how:
  1. Go to the first post in your classified thread
  2. Click on the "Edit" button at the bottom of the post
  3. Click on the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the post
  4. Edit the thread title as described in Angry's post
  5. Click on the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the post
You'll be saved from those annoying "do you still have XX for sale?" PMs, and your fellow members will thank you for saving them time and disappointment. This member in particular -- thank you.

I will also add a request when an item is sold to leave the price in the body of the ad. It helps those trying to sell similar items down the road.

Totally agree. Why remove the sale price in the first place? I don’t get it.

As a courtesy to the buyer, helps them flip it for a profit if price isn't listed.

I didn’t know that. You learn something new here everyday, I guess. It still seems a little odd. Is this typically something the seller intuitively does, or does the buyer have to request it?

Oh, he's not being serious... you should be able to (rightly-ish) smell the snark from where you are.

I say that we all just offer up good deals and only flip back at near- at-near bought price when it's nearly new, was wrong size, or etc.

Flipping for profit on the Paceline is sort of lame, IMHO.

And also don't all delete/NM post and delete body data after sale for same help to PL brethren.

Too many almost vendors in normal user drag seem to be doing this from where I sit. Just IMO, Yo!

I usually go back in a remove the photos only because I don’t use a hosting site and I thought it saved space or bandwidth. Am I wrong to do that?

I often delete prices out of kindness to others who may not want to sell things as cheaply as I do. These aren't liquid markets. A previous price is irrelevant to any current price - all that matters is what's available in the market at the time any individual good is offered for sale and what the buyer's BATNA is.

And I don't care if someone flips what I sell cheap, intentionally or because they forgot what they paid -- that is, unless they chisel me down on price or waste a bunch of my time, end up getting an even greater deal because I just don't care to quibble over $5-10, and THEN turn around and flip it.. that's not in the spirit of the forum. Even then though, I don't call folks out on it. Life is short. Once something's left my garage, it's not mine. I can't count the number of times I've sold something cheap that I didn't need at the time, only to turn around and spend 2X as much when I need it down the road. So it goes. I'm owed nothing.

Also, don't assume that anyone passing on deals is a vendor based on their volume. Vendors make money on their transactions, or they quickly go out of business. Obsessed enthusiasts lose money on every transaction, and are okay with that because it isn't about the money - it's about the experience and the hobby. It should be pretty clear who's who based on their pricing. If you don't like it, go elsewhere. Willing buyer, willing seller markets take two to tango and you're under no obligation to express interest in my castaways and cutouts.

I also object to the price deletion because it helps me price my stuff. I know a few folks here whose items I don't even open because I know they'll be above market, and I know Clean is a constant supplier of great deals. I look at eBay SOLD pricing but sometimes an item isn't there.

My goal here is to provide good deals to my brethren and when I'm not doing that I appreciate the PM feedback or a legit offer even more so. When stuff doesn't sell here after a length of time I put it on eBay and even with fees almost always end up with more $ in my pocket. This year because of selling some non-bike stuff that would be hard to sell without eBay I'm gonna get a 1099 anyway so I'm trying to get stuff sold by the end of the year!

Good post, Dan.

And I'm a big supporter of advanced editing the title to SOLD vs all the other gyrations that move things back up in the queue or don't easily indicate something is no longer available. There's a lot of posts moving available items off p1 awfully quickly. At the same time, I will bump others' postings for good sellers with great stuff at good prices as a srevice to the forum.

And mea culpa, I have forgotten about stuff I sold every once in a while; I should search my items and clean them up....
