12 speed chains

So I'm running Sram electronic shifting, it's time for a new chain and everyone makes them. KMC has gold one!

Anyone knows of issues with using non Sram chains with their drivetrains?

There are a couple companies that claim compatibility, KMC is one. But Sram and most all other outlets recommend a Sram Flat Top chain due to size differences already point out.

I'm using Sram flattop chains with systems other than AXS and they are proving, for whatever reason, to be incredibly durable, even on my gravel bike, which sees pretty terrible conditions for chains. I'd just stick to them.

Angry, curious on what do you mean by other than axs. Is it shimano by any chance?

AXS chain works with Campy 12.

In my experience, KMC chains are a little noisier, but they work fine.

Very interesting.

I can attest to the unusually long life of flat top chains. I got 6000 miles on my first flat top, and I am not a waxer or poster boy for chain cleanliness. I replaced the chain after 6000 miles and could still use the old cassette and rings!

I can't attest to how flat tops mix with other drivetrains.

I`ve had issues with KMC chains and 12sp AXS. Some shifting issues when the chain is really crossed. I would stick with SRAM chains, which are on sale on BikeCloset.

Speaking of cheap chains...

I'm pretty sure during the pandemic craziness, I was burned on several fake shimano and kmc chains. They literally wore out past the stretch limit in a matter of hundreds of miles (like less than 300) in some cases. I bought those chains when supply was crazy limited and got them wherever I could.

These days I'm happy to spend a few bucks more and only buy from very reputable sources for chains. There are probably still a number of those fakes floating around in the grey market spaces...

Same experience, I had at least 2 chains pretty sure shimano branded wear out in like 1 month of riding. Could not believe it, the bikes suddenly became noisy and had bad shifting. Last thing I thought was chain since it was new. Second one I broke a link, so I replaced the link and went on my way only to break another the next ride.

Replaced them with el cheapo pyc chain that has held fairly well.
