GoPro Session 5 not recording looped video properly

I picked up a used Session 5 a couple years ago.
Tested it a bit after purchase but didn't use it again.

Pulled it out to use on the front of the bike yesterday and it didn't write anything to the SD card (Sandisk Extreme Plus).
Did some more testing and switched to looped mode which is supposed to save 5 minute files. Basically I want to use it as a dash cam.

It's saving 5 one minutes files and the display says there is only 1 file.
The little screen counts up to 5:00 minutes and then stays at 5:00. I'd expect it to zero out and record the next 5 minute file.

This thing can get hot too.

Anyone here have similar issue and find a solution?
I haven't done extensive searches on the GoPro community or web just yet.

Thought I'd try here first.
