Came here expecting a discussion of another over hyped 22 year old. This is much better.

He turned 27 in January. Hopefully he has a few more years of wheelies in him.

Gaviria is the latest young rider they've started hyping. Hype now. Results later, maybe. Talk to Edvald Boasson Hagen.

Even by Bicycling standards, this is ridiculous hyperbole and demonstrably untrue unless someone traveled back in the past and eliminated Eddy Merckx from our timeline. http://www.bicycling.com/racing/second-coming-cannibal |

I love him right now, favorite racer! He has personality, his ability to descend is glorious, and he makes things fun to watch. His team isn't as strong as others and yet he continues to kick tail.
I think he has earned his respect and kudos. Plus his bike handling skills are bad ass, he makes difficult things look so darn easy. I dig folks who have that "gift" to be able to do that. |

The Sagan reference aside, I dig that the child in the video is doing so well on a bike.
My wife's niece and nephew have no interest in learning to bicycle (they're 7 and 5). I've offered to teach them a bunch of times, they're just not into it... let alone riding a wheelie like that. Kid must have some excellent balance and motor control.

(As an aside, it seems like many families - including ours - these days end up in neighborhoods where kids tooling around with friends, unsupervised, isn't practical or even possible. Their get-togethers outside of school tend to be scheduled "playdates" that involve coordinating 4 calendars well in advance and the parents driving them to/from. I grew up essentially poor; horsing around in the dirt and tooling around on crappy old bikes was the norm. My kids are "enjoying" a much more prosperous childhood... with a completely different palette of opportunities and limitations, not all of them to my liking...) |
