Travel Bikes??
The time has come where a travel bike is in the picture.
The Ritchey Breakaway Carbon looks like it would be a good solution for me. I currently ride a Ritchey Road Logic and their Geo is almost identical. The Ritchey Breakaway Steel Road is out of stock and no updates on restocking. Hate to spend the extra $1K for the carbon, but I assume there are some benefits. Any real world personal experiences with this bike or others? Thnx |

I have a Ritchey Breakaway steel, and think it's great, but was thinking about selling it to upgrade to the carbon version.
I'm not sure if there's any reason to think the carbon version would actually be better, because the steel has such a good ride feel, but those are the temptations.

Airlines have reduced bike fees to the point where a traditional travel-bike isn't that necessary unless you are concerned about navigating small rental vehicles, trains, etc.
If I ever get back to doing much business travel, I'll make use of my EVOC Pro bag I bought pre-Covid and stuff whatever I have into it - likely something metal with etap and decent tire clearance. |

Are all of those EVOC Pro bags gold plated? Look nice but $$$. That would be a much simpler solution. Will keep my out for a used here in NORCAL.

Another thumbs up for the EVOC bag. Not inexpensive, but have had mine for six years, traveled all over at least a couple dozen times with it, never had any damage.
Thanks to the airline policy change, much less expensive than shipping it in advance. |

I'm still a fan of S&S coupled bikes. They come up used from time to time. Perhaps that's an option?
In my view a travel bike vs a standard bike isn't just about airline fees. Lugging an EVOC etc bag with a standard bike through skinny, cobbled Euro streets, or putting it on a train, or into a rental car is a huge pain. A travel bike bag is substantially easier to manage, and de-stresses travel. PS On the topic of travel bikes, here are two classic articles -- https://cyclingtips.com/2020/07/bike...1-travel-bike/ https://www.bikeradar.com/reviews/bi...carbon-review/ Good luck! |

One reason why I decided to hold on to my cielo, it travelled very well last time I took it. Metal - check Etap - check External Routing - check This really is all you need. The post co bag is fantastic and taking the fork out is so so easy. Not only this bike packed quicker than my old SS but it felt way more safe in there too, SS bags too small, you have to cram stuff in there. Good luck if TSA ever takes it out, they are going to shove it back and probably do some damage. Thinking about going home in February so will test this setup again. |

I know it sounds like I work for the company but it is a really good bag, specially for the price. |
