Anyone here planning on riding PBP this year?
I was volunteering on a 600 km brevet this past weekend. I used to love the challenge of these long rides, but it's been quite a while since I've ridden any event longer than 200 km.
Anyone here already have tickets to Paris to take part in the big event?

I’m not riding it. A friend where I live is. He’s ridden twice before. He has a PR goal time in mind.

I am really interested in 400k and 600k events. A 200k seems reasonable to my mind but I have a hard time thinking about more than that.

I've never gotten over the 600k hump. Quite a few of my rando buds are doing it though.

Yes, I’ll be there. My second PBP.

I would love to do it and get into long distance riding, but I refuse to ride on the road, so only bike paths for me.

I have slowly began thinking about considering PBP in 2027. Recently rode a Fleche and a 300k and will be looking out for some similar distanced events, perhaps with NJ, PA or New England Chapter.

Pbp
Are you aware of what is required to enter it?
Lots of pre rides are required the year before. |

It was possible to gain entry with NO brevets completed in 2022 although start times were limited. A full brevet series (200K-600K) is required prior to June 30 to “complete” your registration.

You don't necessarily need to have completed any ACP brevets the season before in order to qualify. The windows have all passed for preregistration with last year's prequalifying, and coming soon people who did not complete any ACP brevets will be able to register. Some riders from SF Randonneurs are attempting to register in this window.
Then, on June 10, any pre-registered riders who did not pay to convert to full registration will be dropped, and some more slots should open up for riders who did not pre-register. Of course, you still have to complete a Super Randonneur series this year to qualify. |

This was the first year that a 200k the year before didn't get you a starting time in the 90 hour groups on the first try. For 2019, I did a 1200k the year before to get my choice of starting groups and it turns out it wasn't a good idea to get in the first 90h group. It turns out those people ride faster than the 80h groups, I was in a single file line of riders longer than I could see. And the headwinds die off at dusk, so starting a little later is a good idea.

Some who pre-registered might not finish all the qualifiers this year, they could have family plans pop up, or they could get injured. So, there will be some openings. Historically, nobody who does the SR qualifiers and applies has been turned away in the past but randonneuring is becoming extremely popular in some areas of the world right now. I'm pre-registered in the B Group but am not sure if going. This would be my 4th time and at my age, probably the last. I have hotels but no airfare yet
If a rider "just" does a 400k in 2026, they would more than likely have a good selection of start times during pre-registration in early 2027. |

I'm still planning on going, did another 300k last week and it went really, really well. I had been discouraged until that result, 13:48 on a ~2900m route, which is really fast for me. I am going to do a 400 this week and am going to try for 18 hours.
