The official word is that the newest cranksets use slightly different chainring spacing that is optimized with newer, matching front derailers.

It sounds here like it's not a noticeable change though, and after all, the limit screws do allow some alteration of the cage travel.

Note that the 9100 and 8000 FD's use a low limit screw with a hi "boost" screw that acts more like a cable-tensioning adjustment for the outward travel of the cage (the actual, fixed hi-limit stop is built into the lever).
And there is an additional cable-tension screw as well!
