The one benefit I can see is on really hot rides. Sometimes the drink mix i use tastes so putridly disgusting if it's really warm, almost unstomachable.
Also, a lot of times I take straight water in my bottles, and on hot days, the water does taste plasticy and gross out of a plastic bottle.
