Being an idiot about such things for quite a while, I always thought that the Varsity, Continental and some other lower models were somehow brazed. Then I read the linked article in the Rivendell Reader. Of course, it begs the question - if it looks fillet brazed (and had real rear dropouts instead of crappy stamped steel) and somehow the strength, weight and ride characteristics could be duplicated, does it really matter how it was made? After all, it's not like any of us would strip the paint to check the brazing technique.
