I use Dynaudio speakers in my media room and think they are a good value. I use the Excite X14 bookshelf speakers as my rear surround speakers.
I am using bookshelf speakers for the first time in my main audio listening room - my home office. As mentioned earlier you still need proper stands and in my opinion you need a sub that is usually more expensive than the bookshelf speakers. I do have a great audio sound in this space. People who listen to this smaller system are very impressed with the sound.
