Try this recipe: a
$21 bench clamp, a 4' piece of gas pipe threaded at one end (this might cost you as much as the clamp), a threaded flange for the bottom, a scrap of plywood and a few machine screws and nuts.
My old stand finally gave up a few years ago and I made one like the above. It does everything a Park floor stand does, if a little more slowly.
However I'll admit I'm tempted by the under-the-BB style. You guys who use them -- do you put them on a table to get the bike up to a good height?
(Incidentally I noticed much lower prices on those PRO stands on eBay.)
