I share your pain, I have spent countless hours exploring the gorge, found my first domestic wild orchid there. It was terrible to find out it was burning, and for such a dumb reason.

But know this: Fire truly creates the phoenix in nature. Next year flowers that have not bloomed in decades will poke their heads out. Mushrooms will begin the healing process, and in a decade, the area will be more lush than before. this is how nature does it. she recycles.
