So...the Farpoint worked out great. Perfect size, easy opening, beautiful strap and back panel setup. With the waist strap, all the weight can be transferred off the shoulder.

The Daypack + was a nice size for a couple of days...it's half the size of my old Osprey backpack and it takes just the right amount of stuff for a couple of days if I plan well.

Only negative is that I didn't like the weight distribution if I attached it to the front of the Fairpoint. That extra weight is too far out, so I just carried it as a shoulder bag.

I also used a handful of Eagle Creek packing cubes, which makes everything so neat and orderly.
