I have two answers...the first is this
Miracase. Grabs a variety of phone sizes, holds snugly, releases easily, solid mount. I do not use the vent mount...I hard mount on the dash, or on the work bench, or on the treadmill, or on the trainer bike. The AMP ball mount allows you to use mounts for any/all of those. (See below).
The second is Apple CarPlay. Once I added aftermarket CarPlay to my current vehicle, where the phone goes is irrelevant. It's a game changer. Phone stays in my pocket, or charging in a pocket, etc. Depending on your vehicle you might be able to add CarPlay...
