A somewhat related comment I'll throw out:
Be careful when buying a car where you make the decision primarily with your heart, not your head. I did that a few years ago and lived to regret it. It wasn't a huge amount of money, but it wasn't trivial either ($35k) which makes it enough to be irksome. I've done the same thing with a motorcycle, but that was $4k, so not as painful.
