That looks awfully dangerous for almost all knees, let alone a problem joint. Most PTs will tell you not to go past 90 degrees. I am envious, though, especially in my present condition.

Weisan, IF it happens to be an itb issue (which I dealt with for a few months a year ago: PT, sports doctor, MRI)... I had a very sharp pain in my left knee for a few years, on and off. The doctor thought it was likely a meniscal tear. But the MRI showed it to be inflammation from a classic, inflexible it band. The big surprise for me was that the problem was actually in my hip and along my thigh, and not in my knee per se.

This is my issue, or was, before I broke down that damn IT band. I never even knew what an IT band was before January.

I think most cyclists would not be able to get that low. You are not alone.

This is most certainly not intended to be smug. I am grateful to have never experienced any of the afflictions or maladies possessed by many people in this thread. Whatever I've suffered in riding has been a result of unintended kinetic interactions with the luck to have those happen both few and far between.

I see lots of riders of all skills and denominations riding in Central Park. Never have I seen more splayed knees, legs akimbo and wonky pedalstokes than in this meeting ground of crowded asphalt. This park crowd I don't take as reflective of the cognoscenti that inhabit this forum - but I might guess that lousy pedalstokes and bad fit & position will just prematurely burn up all the useful life in any number of joints so deplorably misused. Grinding on that bike right next to me. It is a shame.

Pistol squats!? What idiot came up with that move? Pure musculature and connective tissue ballistic annihilation. When they say "get ripped" in the gym, the guy that came up with this move probably misunderstood.

weisan-pal get your aches fixed. But first do no harm. Good luck and sorry I can't offer the tiniest bit of worth to this thread.

I keep saying this: I appreciate everyone chiming in.

Rode 60 miles this morning, never climb as well as I did in a long time...the bulge/pain is getting bigger/more pronounced. :(

I have to do something about this quick...

You bet you do. Trust me, been there, done it.

A backward fall like that on skis, although involving both legs rather than just one, is one of the perfect case scenarios for a popped ACL.

If you have a pronounced bulge that's increasing, you should see a specialist promptly. It could be one of three or four things, none really serious, but you can develop scar tissue that creates longer term hassles in terms of treatment. Ignore what I said and get to an orthopedist.

Yes Sir, I will. Thank you.
