Belt Drive SuperSix EVO - Now 5.82kg
 

A few of you all may have seen me scrounging around for parts...

I'm finally getting close!

I've got a 2014 Supersix EVO frame that I'm converting to belt drive. The bulk of the work was done by Joey over at the Frame Doctor, north-west of Orlando, FL.


He machined a piece in the spirit of the Paragon splitter, to fit perfectly inside the seat stay, cut the frame, attached the splitter, and painted it back up all pretty. I just got the first photo of the completed work today, expect to see it all together in the next week or so, after I check fit of a couple more parts before ordering the last couple things.


Will be using the gates CDX drive system, and will be using a rear cog that fits a standard S-group freehub body, so I'll be able to use whatever wheels I want (read: 60/44 Boyds with powertap).

The bike built up as Cannondale intended it was 16.5lbs with a SRAM Red group. Going belt and singlespeed should drop that considerably.

I'll be using a Wheels MFG eccentric BB for chain tension, paired with a Shimano 6600 crankset, for the time being.

Have a set of Ciamillo Zero G - Ti brakes that I hope to make work, though I doubt they'll open wide enough for the Boyds (or any wheel I've got, for that matter), barring that I'll use a set of TRP brakes I have sitting around for the meantime

Will round the build out with an FSA plasma bar/stem,TRP RRL SR brake levers, and eventually Nokons or Yokozuna housing.

I'll be using the stock Cannondale C1 post until I see something I can't pass up go by.

Should be a great build when all is said and done!

Now that's not something you see every day. The fab work on that splitter looks really slick.

Any reason for going to all this trouble, or did you just want another project?

This should be pretty rad! Looking forward to seeing the final product.

I had frame sitting around, and knew I was never going to build it back up as a normal road bike. We kind of joked about it at the bike shop I work at because I was always lusting after the Raleigh RXS or really anything with a belt.

Kind of said screw it one day and called the frame doctor and we figured we should go for it.

What kind of gearing are you planning to use?

For hilarity's sake, I'm planning to use a 70 up front with a 24 on the back

i'm interested in a ride report as i have always though that belt drive was the way to go. oh, but not for the bicycle manufactures who want to sell chains, cogs, cassettes etc.

Cool, definitely better than letting the frame just sit around.

I had a Felt F1X and toyed with the same idea, turning it into a light weight SSCX but it couldn't take an EBB (carbon BB shell).

Love the idea! I'm also curious to hear your opinions on the FSA Plasma set up, as I've been considering grabbing a set for an upcoming build.

For some time, I've been wanting my next +1 to be a belt drive. I can't decide if I want more of a commuter, like the Breezer Beltway, or something more aggressive, like the Soma Wolverine. It also seems perfect for light touring.

I'll join the chorus of folks who are eagerly waiting for your ride report.

Wheels Manufacturing was pretty adamant at the time of release that their EBB would be compatible with carbon frames. We'll be testing that, it seems!

I'm a huge fan of the belt drive stuff Spot Brand has been doing, although they're a bit pricey for what they are, imo. And Raleigh fairly regularly has intriguing belt drive offerings from SSCX, to commuter hybrids.
