Need help with brakes

1 Attachment(s)
I want to buy a 2015 C-Dale Superx cross bike. It is disc, which is what I want, but I am unsure if the avid BB7's will work with this type of mounting. I have tried to read the threads on this that I got on my search, but I just need the specific answer to this one questions.

Sooooo. Based on the picture only (as that is how the brake mounts look on the 2015) would a rear BB7 work on this or do I need an entirely different type of brake? I am thinking if I use a 140mm rotor it would work, but I cannot sort this out in my head.

thanks

Dave

Answer: Yes, the BB7 will work. If using a 140mm rotor you do not need an adapter that spaces it further out from the c-stay. I don't believe BB7 calipers are front or rear specific (most aren't), but I could be wrong. I would think you could use a 160mm rotor on the rear, you just get an adapter that is essentially just a spacer with two longer mounting bolts.

Better answer: Get something better than a BB7. There are so many more calipers out there that offer better modulation, much easier/simpler setup and are lighter.

get trp spyres if you are going mechanical disc.

best bang for buck, easily rival most hydro setups in power/feel when setup with appropriate housing.

no disc brake calipers (mech or hydro) are front/rear specific - as far as i am aware.

I have the bb7's hence the question. Would love hydro stuff, but have these already.

looks like normal post mount to me. only question would be spacing for different rotor sizes

Yes, your BB7's will mount up just fine. You'll have the convex/concave washers to suss out any alignment irregularities in the caliper.

I get that you already have the BB7s and maybe you've used them and you're adept at setting them up and fine with their performance. But, there's a new set of Spyres with 160mm rotors for sale in the forum now for $105. Here's a set of Hy/Rd at a great price ending soon. https://www.ebay.com/itm/232489845679

You can always sell the Avids.

You might want to search around to see what calipers are known to play the best with the levees you're using as some combos are better than others. Good luck!
