Campy UT bolt washer (the flat one)

I was swapping out some UT cranks and the flat washer, the one on the drive side not the wavy one, came out in pieces. There is nothing fancy about this washer is there? Rather than get the "Campy" washer, I was hoping to just get a generic replacement at the local fastener place.

Do you mean the plastic grease guard, its been a while (actually I swapped out some just a few weeks ago) and I can't remember another non wavy washer on the drive side.

Oh, now I'm not so sure. I thought it was this thing. I pulled the bolt and something washer-like came out in pieces and no washer. I wonder if washer is still in crank.

That washer shouldn't come out, wonder what did you do hehe... never managed to even take it out the couple of times I tried :)

Check the axles maybe is still moving around inside, if not then doubt to put something else in there will be a problem as long the outside diameter matches.

That washer is compressed onto the shank of the bolt above the threads, so it's not meant to come off. Anything you replace it with will have slightly less contact with the head of the bolt than the original had. I don't know how critical that issue is, but I'd want any washer I used to have the ID just large enough to pass over the threads.

Like mentioned permanently installed onto the bolt. Looking at the bolt, the washer is indeed gone?

summilux 08-16-2012 08:24 AM

Yah, it's gone. Maybe it wasn't there when I did the install (from new) last year. I can't remember. That was my first UT, so if it wasn't there, I wouldn't have noticed it missing. It's definitely not in the crank. I'll just buy another bolt assembly. I can't wait to hear what to hear what the charge is.

All bolts the same? My Athena has the washer. The SR is the one that is missing.

SR, ti spindle? Left hand threaded type?

summilux 08-16-2012 08:54 AM

Not titanium. Standard right handed bolt threading.

Same bolt as all UT then...I have 'em if ya can't find them. Not cheap tho. make sure ya grease them well on install, around washer as well.

This is the thing I'll buy from LBS. I hope the markup is good. At least I'll get a good five minutes of kvetching for my money. Maybe an EPS bike that I can stroke. Maybe some good stuff in the clearance bin.
