Moving to Seattle: where to ride road/mtb/gravel?

Any Seattlites give me the goods on riding out there. I'll be moving from DC labor day weekend. I'm looking to live the Ballard area and commute to South Lake Union by bike, but would like to do some longer riding and mountain biking on the weekends.

Thanks!

Seattle and king county both have cycling maps

Seattle and king county both have great cycling maps
Get those on line or when in town
join the Cascade club for club rides
and if into classic bicycles contact my friend Robert Freeman in north Bend

Hit me up when you move into town. I live nearby in Green Lake / Tangle Town neighborhood. Been back for over a decade...would be glad to show you around.

Awesome. How about mountain biking, how far do I have to go to hit some trails?

OK I am moving back to North bend doing both ways and coming home for lunch and returning to work
The interesting part was when days got shorter I would ride from downtown Seattle out till it got dark than take a bus the rest of the way
Still recall getting off the bus in north Bend and it was nite and riding the last small distant home

Maybe stop in a local shop. For the price of a Cliff bar you might get some really good advice.

Cascade Bicycle, Metier Cycling, and Rapha all do shop rides in Seattle. http://nwmtbseries.com/ is a cool race with lots of good people who could hook you up with a lot of info.

This guy puts together a bunch of gentlemen's gravel rides:

Half hour or so for the local stuff. I like Tiger Mountain, Tokul and Tolt-McDonald. And Big Finn Hill/St. Eds close to home.

There's a fun little MTB course under I-5 you can reach via Eastlake. Just have to mind the nice gentlemen in the nearby encampment. Of course the Burke-Gilman out to Redmond is long, relaxed, and lovely.
