For the car nuts here

I've done this twice in the past. Amazing how fast people here have recognized the cars. But this time, no way is anyone going to get it off the first shot. I hope.

GScot 12-23-2016 07:36 AM

I'll start the wild guesses with Jaguar XK140. I really do think Jag but the model is random.

texbike 12-23-2016 08:08 AM

OK, how about a few hints? Country of origin? Era?

I personally can't nail it down from this single pic, but will throw out a WAG of an Alfa 2600 Zagato.

Four intersecting lines

Guessing Tesla Model X and first shot is the roof where the door starts.

54ny77 12-23-2016 09:40 AM

Front quarter panel of a silver F40.

54ny77 12-23-2016 09:40 AM

Or, some sort of Lotus.

Those are my 2 guesses.

Bwana 12-23-2016 10:05 AM

2000ish Mazda Miata? The curve back towards the front on that headlight (i assume) looks a little too sharp though.

maximus 12-23-2016 10:17 AM

1987 Mazda RX7

What I assume to be a headlamp is probably too curved for that though...

54ny77 12-23-2016 10:29 AM

the sharp horizontal crease and width of it looks just like the line on a corvette c4 front quarter panel, but the exposed headlight rules that car out.

You guys are great! Truly. And you sure as hell do know cars. But not this one yet!!!! At last, you're stumped, maybe I can even stretch it out to 4 snippets.

First instinct was that the black was a shadow. I'm thinking it's actually a giant old-school chin spoiler like on old BMW 2002/M3 or AE86. I swear it's on the tip of my tongue, but I can't place that exact style of spoiler.

Or is it just the tire?

3rd edit: Actually, it's probably the back of the car... :bike:

Tickdoc 12-23-2016 12:48 PM

I'm thinking newish.....2000 and beyond BBC that looks like a parki distance sensor.

Hawker 12-23-2016 12:58 PM

That Sir, is a Lamborghini. Most probably the Hurican model.

19wisconsin64 12-23-2016 01:07 PM

?

....looks like it could be a Koenigsegg, or a 1967 Ford GT MK II, or a 1999 Corvette C5 Hardtop, or a 1990 Mitsubishi 3000 GT, or a Maserati MC12..... but it's probably none of those it's..... next clue please.

Bwana 12-23-2016 01:49 PM

I'm out of ideas. Was trying to find something with an exhaust cutout like the bottom "hole" in the third picture (Maserati, Jag, BMW M6 type...) but I'm lost. Even texted my brother, no idea.

Waiting for the fourth clue, you win for now.

Well damn, a good guess indeed. I really wanted to ignore you but...

It was parked at the hotel where we were. Not absolutely strictly within my self-imposed rule of only cars seen during a ride but since I left from there on my bike and the car was there and when I returned on my bike the car was there, the rule was stretched a wee bit.

Gorgeous car, pretty rare to see them, at least where I am. And it's a convertible and looks gorgeous with the top up. Not all cool cars look good in convertible versions. This one does. A few years ago I rode Col du Petit St Bernard and coming the other direction during the climb I met something like (I've forgotten exactly at this point) half a dozen or maybe a good ten of each Lambos, Astons, and V10 R8s. The sound from the V10s was amazing. Never heard this one. The owner was a bit of jerk in fact. Oh well.

Looked good next to our Suby but he sure as hell wasn't carrying a cool bike inside his car and he damned well didn't pull down 53 mpg driving to the hotel like I did! But cool car anyway. I used to be into cars like that. Now I just enjoy their looks.

Can't believe you guessed that though!

Hawker 12-23-2016 03:21 PM

Very cool car to be sure.

AngryScientist 12-23-2016 03:24 PM

that audi must be a joy to blast on some of those twisty mountain roads. vroom vroom.

Cicli 12-23-2016 03:30 PM

There is a guy down the street with a black R8. Sounds awesome.

OtayBW 12-23-2016 03:42 PM

Geez Louise - with those first clues, I thought it might as well have been a Whirlpool dishwasher as anything else....

54ny77 12-23-2016 05:34 PM

wow, stumped!

great eye to the poster with the right guess

sand fungus 12-23-2016 06:31 PM

R8

The R8 is one of my all time dream cars. I am an automotive engineer so I knew that no older cars would be able to pull off the 4 intersecting lines and keep that tight of tolerances so figured it was newer and had to be a supercar of some sort, so that was how I arrived at my guess.

But I never would have gotten it with out the headlamp corner.

dustyrider 12-23-2016 09:21 PM

Funny, I actually find that Legacy more enticing. Always wanted a legacy gt...

ohsnapitsed 12-24-2016 10:24 AM

I just can't believe your Suby gets 53mpg! Must be a model not available in the states.

Interesting. When I looked at the 1st pic, I wasn't of the opinion that the tolerances looked that great.

Never-the-less, great call!

As in diesel or even turbodiesel (which together account for roughly half of the car market in Europe).

I cant watch videos like that anymore. So much fun im sure but thats a life on the line, well or a few. As a car driver, who pushes a bikerider like that? if something happen id never get over that. Hardly news with reckless drivers just amazed at how little is done to stop it tbh.
