What can you experts discern from photo?

Probably the ENVE Fray. It's been leaked already.

A cantilever brake? :)

I find the current trend of reducing tire clearance by 5mm to 7mm on gravel bikes and calling them "all-road" bikes amusing. We're basically back to the same thing that they called a gravel bike in 2016. Meanwhile "endurance" road bikes are coming from the other direction, and shipping with 40mm of clearance, and at least one team is riding Factor gravel bikes at Paris-Roubaix (albeit setup with 28mm tires).

It seems likely that this will be an endurance version of the Melee with about 40 mm of clearance and more relaxed geometry. This will definitely be on my list as a possible all road bike. Around here, you're lucky to get 50% gravel on a ride, so a fast bike with 35mm tires fits the bill.

The MOG is a different beast and this won't just be a MOG with more clearance.

I just always find it funny that, for me, a cross bike was an "all-road" bike when I started riding.. mind you, 35mm cross tires were "big", but still.. my cross bikes back in the late 2000s were probably the most comfy and capable bikes I've owned.. had an extra set of cheap wheels and rode anything I wanted, including most, not too gnarly, single track in San Diego..

I was rotating tires over the weekend and learned that my '96 unicorn Master CX and my '03 Hot Tubes both will take 40mm tires. I had never ridden anything larger than 32s on them, but of course the last time I put tires on those bikes I was still using Clement Criterium Seta as the gold standard for tire width.

So are these vintage cyclocross bikes now officially "endurance" road bikes? :)

Completely agreed!

Cross bikes really have been a lot of fun for a lot longer than gravel, all road, and endurance road have existed.

Examples of how the bike industry is still struggling and essentially flat, sales wise, unless the rig is electric. Creating 'purpose driven' bikes...silly but one maker's sales go up 2% and somebody else's goes down 2%...

Inflatable crash vest for when the tire comes off a hookless rim?

nmrt 04-09-2024 08:23 AM

i have no envy for what's coming 4/11.
marketers gonna market.

Cross bikes with their straight top tubes and short head tubes so they could be "shouldered" (aka tall stand over clearance) did not work for those of us with short legs and short arms so I am happy to have endurance and gravel bike options.
