Running Chorus 12 Rim Brake 1x?
 

Anyone try running campy 12s as a 1x set up for road? Don’t see this being done a lot , maybe for a good reason? I ride in Chicago flat lands and don’t think I benefit from a 2x set up

Not Campy, but I've been running Shimano 11s 44x11-36 on my Supersix this winter on Martha's Vineyard.

Theoretically I don’t see why that couldn’t work if you get your chainline right.

Shouldn't be any big deal. Figure out your gearing, take front der off/housing/inner wire and if you are really feeling frisky, take the shift guts out of LH lever. Or send it to me and I can take it apart.

Really, 1x chorus is just chorus without shifting the FD right?

Seriously though; sure why not. Just work out your ideal gear range and select the right chainring and you’re good to go

I did it with 12spd Sram regular AXS, but did throw a narrow wide on the cranks for good chain retention.

Campy Chorus should work fine!

Chain line will be extreme in the largest sprocket. A cheap 1x crank and appropriate chain would be better.

I use my 2x bikes with SRAM AXS drive trains as almost 1x . With a 46/30 crank and 10-44 cassette, I'll use the 46/38 on grades up to 8%. After that, I shift to the little ring. Occasionally, I might cheat and use the 46/44 briefly.

I did that with 11speed Chorus on a bike I used as an around town/pub ride bike. Loved it. I think I used a 48T narrow-wide chainring.

Can you swap the guts of an ekar and make it a 13 speed rim brake group? My wife doesn't like shifting her front derailleur and we have some steep hills in Lisbon. We are waiting for our new frames to arrive in the next 2 weeks.

I ran a road group 1x for a while and it’s not ideal. As mentioned above, the chain line in the ‘big-big’ combo isn’t very optimal at all and the chain and chainrings aren’t made for this either. There are dedicated 1x groups that are better for this.

My solution for Chicagoland riding is a 50x39 setup. With my 50x11 I have a very large gear and my 39x28 is still plenty low for the few hills there are around Chicago. If I want lower I can reinstall the original 34.

I have taken the guts out of a EKAR lever and transplanted it into a slightly modified 11s body. Problem is the donor RH lever($$). You'll also need a 13s compatible rear wheel/hub, chain, cogset. Gonna be pricey.

Don't know the seller, but seems like a pretty good deal for the important bits you'll need. Just supply your own cranks and sell the front derailleur.
