1984 Giro d'Italia Campagnolo support vehicle
 

A friend sent me a photo of a Mercedes support vehicle with a 67th Giro edition plate at a car show this past weekend in England. The 67th edition was the 1984 Giro and in the Giro archives I found a photo of the car with winner Francesco Moser.

The original appears to be left hand drive

also, it seems to have different wheels, maybe different headlights and a different front plate (not sure if the plates stay with cars in Europe when they are sold).. 100$ cool nonetheless! I love me some old Mercs..

*also there is a body colored valence under the front bumper on the show car that isn't one the support car.. I'm going to say they are either different years or maybe a different spec for a different country..

Could there have been more than one Campagnolo support vehicle in the 67th Giro?

The Buick is cooler than the M-B.

But some of the vans are even cooler.

The 1976 Van with the bubble roof.

The Fiats (?) from the 60s-70s.

that Buick is horrible, IMHO.. never been a fan of the late 70s/early 80s big domestic cars.. but yes, those Fiats were awesome!

Horrible in normal trim. Awesome in Campy trim, basically same with all of these.

Pretty sure the vans I said were super cool were absolute death traps to actually drive.

Can't even begin to image how horrifying it must have been to drive any of these giant land pigs with bikes on the roof rack swaying around chasing after pro riders in the mountains.

The Buick looks cool but we had one as a family car back in the day and it consistently broke down. I's take the MB any day.

The clogs are what really pull this whole thing together.

My parents had an Oldsmobile that was similar. Gold outside, gold inside, acres of carpet in the back. A perfect car for a time when parents didn't think about putting kids in seat belts.

I still have hazy memories of riding in the "way back" of our avocado green one on a road trip from LA to Pittsburgh in the 60's.

"Can we go in the back back mom?"

"Sure kids!"

I don’t think we fully got to everyone wears a seatbelt all the time till almost the mid-90s when I was in high school.
